Vehicle strikes on black cockatoos

Black cockatoos feed where there is food and often this food is close to roads. This Carnaby’s cockatoo is feeding on a Banksia growing in the median strip of a busy road, Underwood Avenue, Shenton Park. Even though cockatoo signs have been erected, the speed limit on part of this avenue is 70kph. The cockatoos sometimes drop the Banksia cones onto the road and then  walk  out on the road to feed. As the population of Perth grows, more black cockatoos will be struck by cars. They are much safer when feeding within bushland so protection of our remaining bush lands is critically important.
